Amphibian Stage

A theatre website built to draw people in and make booking tickets feel easier.

Amphibian Stage is a non-profit theatre company based in Texas, USA. They produce innovative and engaging theatre, and run classes for veterans to help participants process their experiences and find community.

We partnered with Amphibian Stage to design and develop a new WordPress website that is easier to navigate, more engaging to browse, and better set up to support ticket sales. We also supported a Spektrix integration, helping connect the experience more smoothly to booking. The work focused on smoothing the journey from “I’m curious” to “I’ve booked”, while keeping the site full of energy and performance.

The Challenge

Research and discovery showed us that the previous landing page captured the atmosphere of the theatre experience, but did not give visitors enough information or help them get where they wanted to go.

The website needed clearer paths to shows, membership options, and key brand messaging, without becoming cluttered.

At the same time, Amphibian’s work is live, dynamic, and full of movement. We wanted the website to feel like an extension of that, using interaction and motion to draw people in, while still staying readable and usable.

What We Did

We redesigned the homepage to be more extensive and content-rich, creating more room to feature shows, memberships, and important updates.

To make the experience engaging without becoming overwhelming, we used hover-activated moving elements that reveal more information as people explore. This allowed us to surface more detail on key pages while keeping the layout scannable.

We also designed a mega-menu navigation with clearer page subcategories and supporting images, making the structure more transparent and helping visitors get to the right place faster.

Between animation, a revolving announcement bar, and hover-activated content pieces, the site deliberately operates a bit more like a performance: timed, lively, and interactive.

On mobile, we carried the design through with practical adjustments: CTA elements take up more space (built for thumbs, not cursors), and featured performances stack to improve readability.

Impact

The new site gives Amphibian Stage clearer routes to ticketing, membership, and key content, helping visitors move from browsing to booking with less friction. The Spektrix integration also supports a smoother ticketing journey end to end.

At the same time, the interaction-led approach makes the experience feel more like the theatre itself: engaging, surprising, and full of momentum, without sacrificing clarity.

I knew from my first meeting with Studio Lutalica that they would be the team to complete our complex, time-sensitive, and very detailed site re-design. Their portfolio will show you incredibly strong work-but what you can’t see is what attentive, compassionate, and collaborative teammates they are.

I don’t feel that we hired a contractor to complete a task but found a partner to help us achieve our institutional goals. Cecilia and their team’s creative problem-solving for Amphibian’s distinct needs made for a surprising, engaging, and beautiful site that really speaks to who we are.
