ILGA World

A Drupal-to-WordPress rebuild focused on accessibility, clarity, and navigation.

ILGA World is a worldwide federation of 1,900+ organisations campaigning for LGBTQI+ rights across the globe.

We supported ILGA World with a Drupal-to-WordPress website redevelopment, alongside accessibility checks and UX improvements—helping a large, content-rich site feel clearer, more consistent, and easier to navigate.

The Challenge

ILGA World’s audiences are diverse and global. The site needed to work well across devices, with accessibility and readability treated as a baseline rather than an add-on.

Over time, incremental changes had introduced inconsistencies across layouts and content blocks, which made pages harder to scan and the overall experience feel less cohesive.

The migration from Drupal to WordPress was an opportunity to rebuild with stronger structure: clearer navigation, more reliable content patterns, and a more consistent hierarchy.

What We Did

We started with navigation—making key content easier to find quickly. We designed and implemented a mega menu to improve wayfinding across a broad set of sections.

We reworked key content blocks for clarity and accessibility, refining colour and layout rules to improve comprehension.

We replaced patterns that placed text directly over images, reducing readability issues and improving legibility.

We improved responsive behaviour across devices, resolving sizing and flow issues so content remains clear on mobile and tablet.

We also standardised typography to establish a more consistent hierarchy, keeping body text readable and accessible.

Impact

People can find information faster thanks to clearer navigation, with less friction moving between key sections.

Content is easier to read and scan, supported by more consistent typography and content patterns.

The WordPress rebuild created a more maintainable foundation—reducing the “one-off” page fixes that accumulate over time, and making it easier to keep the experience consistent as new content is published.
