Stonewall Housing

A mobile-optimised WordPress site designed to protect frontline capacity and connect LGBTQ+ people to safe housing support.

Stonewall Housing is a leading UK charity providing housing advice and specialist support to LGBTQ+ people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or living in a hostile environment.

In collaboration with Lattimore + Friends, we delivered a brand refresh alongside a WordPress website redesign. As a queer-led studio, we understood that this project wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about protecting frontline capacity by making life-saving information easier to find and updates easier for the team to publish.

The work was delivered pro bono as part of The Boost Award, which supports high-impact organisations with the visibility they need to grow.

The Challenge

For many, visiting Stonewall Housing’s website is a high-stakes moment—they need support quickly and must feel safe enough to take the next step.

Drawing on our lived experience of navigating queer services, we knew the site had to function under pressure. It needed to carry a lot of practical, service-led information without becoming overwhelming, staying calm and dependable across devices.

Our goal was to build a digital gateway that reduced the friction between a person in crisis and the help they deserve, while ensuring the site remained maintainable for a busy frontline team.

What We Did

We refreshed Stonewall Housing’s visual identity and engineered their WordPress website with a clean, minimalist interface that prioritises findability and safety.

We created a mobile-first responsive experience with navigation optimised for touch, ensuring people can reach the right section quickly and on the move.

To support long-term digital autonomy, we implemented a modular page structure that allows the team to add content and publish timely announcements without specialist support.

Throughout the process, we applied trauma-informed UX patterns to reduce cognitive load: clearer pathways, simpler choices, and content structures that help people understand their next steps immediately.

Impact

Our strategic redesign has transformed the website into a resilient tool for those who need it most. It is now easier for Stonewall Housing to keep their site accurate as services evolve, supporting the team to publish updates without the process becoming a bottleneck.

For people seeking help, the experience is calmer and more straightforward. By lowering the barriers to information, we helped facilitate a direct increase in self-referrals, ensuring more LGBTQ+ people can access safe housing. This combination of an efficient backend and low-friction user journeys helps the website do its job in the moments it matters most.
