Welcome to our new mini Journal series, Success Stories! In this series, we share short but sweet stories from those we work with which back up one of our favourite sayings: "Good design isn't a luxury—it's a tool for liberation." Designed to be read on a quick break or over a brew, maybe this quick read will inspire your own opportunity to make the world a better place. (We hope so!)

Success Stories: Bi+ Equal

For too long, the bi+ community has been overlooked, even within the wider LGBTQ+ movement. The mission of Bi+ Equal was to change that by creating a vital, pan-European entity dedicated to the full, diverse spectrum of the bi+ experience. For a project with such a clear community focus, finding the right creative partner was essential.

The Bi+ Equal website

For founder Soudeh Rad, the collaborative process of building the brand and website was key. "During our collaboration with Studio Lutalica, open and clear communication and prompt responses truly made our trajectory easier." The resulting website is not just a reflection of the project's current aims, they go on to explain, but a "potential resource and website for the future."

The decision to work with a lived experience-led studio like Lutalica was a strategic one, and for Soudeh, it was one of the most important parts of the whole experience. It removed the usual friction and need for translation that can often come when working with a less specialised design team, and meant the focus could be on the design work itself.

"There is an undeniable power and an inherent treasure in narratives that emerge directly from lived experience"

Soudeh continues, explaining that, during their experience, they found that: "the creativity is natural and does not call for extra effort... The process was remarkably fluid and intuitive, devoid of the usual complexities that often accompany the initiation of branding and websites. There was no need to delve into exhaustive details regarding the foundational choices we'd make."

This is the power of choosing to work with lived-experience-led design like Studio Lutalica—our work with a client or partner doesn't just create a brand; it builds confidence and capacity, allowing organisations to thrive long after we've worked with them.

In short? We empower communities to start movements.
